Dig It! History

Jackie Drecksel
Founder, Dig It! The Fossil Workshop

On May 11, 2002, Jackie opened her first Dig It! The Fossil Workshop Prehistoric Center in Utah. Dig It! is the nation's first interactive experience providing a creative learning experience for all who are interested in geology and paleontology.

Jackie began digging fossils with her father when she was three years old and has been fascinated by paleontology and geology ever since. She has taught these subjects in Utah, Idaho, California and now to Washington School children ranging from ages 4-14 and helped scouts attain their geology and archeology merit badges. Through her teaching experience, Jackie saw another opportunity to create an educational environment lacking in the community. Jackie immediately began researching how to bring a unique, interactive learning experience to children and adults alike interested in paleontology and geology.

Dig It! provides a creative educational opportunity for all ages. The learning center contains Jurassic Sand Quarries where patrons can dig and excavate authentic fossils and minerals, and prepare their specimen in our fossil preparation lab. The best part ...everyone gets to keep their 5-600 million years old specimen!
